Steam drum is the most important pressure element in natural circulation boiler, which is mainly used in electric power production of medium pressure and high pressure subcritical boiler.Steam drum refers to the pressure drop or rise caused by the air pressure through the water cycle. It can also be understood as the pressure change caused by the fusion of gas and water. The air and water molecules in the limit pressure will increase the pressure of the gas and lead to the pressure molecules generated after the high pressure reaches a certain value.Drum tank in industry is able to withstand the air pressure and water level pressure produced by the drum of an industrial equipment.
Steam drum is a tubular pressure vessel used in water tube boiler to separate steam and purify water, form water circulation loop and store pot water.
The main function is to receive water from the economizer, separate the soda and supply water to the circulation loop, and convey saturated steam to the superheater.
There is a certain amount of water in the drum, and there is a certain amount of heat and working medium savings, which can slow down the change speed of steam pressure when the working condition changes, and play a certain buffering role when the water supply and load are not coordinated in a short time.
The drum is equipped with an internal device for steam separation, steam cleaning, charging in the pot and continuous sewage discharge, so as to ensure the quality of steam, as shown in the figure.
Steam drum is the most unwieldy and expensive thick-wall pressure bearing part in boiler.

Details
Boiler steam drum water level is one of the most important power plant parameters to both measure and control. Control of the proper water level in the boiler is critical for safe operation of the boiler. If the level is too low, boiler tubes will be damaged by overheating. If the level is too high, steam separators will not function properly, temperature control will be difficult, and the superheater tubes and turbine could be damaged by moisture or water treatment chemical carryover.
Working Progress
The separated steam is drawn out from the top section of the drum and distributed for process.

Further heating of the saturated steam will make superheated steam normally used to drive a steam turbine.

Saturated steam is drawn off the top of the drum and re-enters the furnace in through a superheater.

The steam and water mixture enters the steam drum through riser tubes, drum internals consisting of demister separate the water droplets from the steam producing dry steam. The saturated water at the bottom of the steam drum flows down through the downcomer pipe.
Structure
Drum working conditions are complex, serious accident consequences, must be strictly controlled drum material chemical composition, mechanical properties and welding and processing quality, and through a series of strict inspection.
The copper cylinder is composed of a cylinder body and a seal head.

(2) head: subcritical pressure boilers are usually hemispherical, high pressure and ultra-high pressure boilers are usually ellipsoid, medium pressure boilers are relatively flat ellipsoid, and the head is provided with manholes for installation and maintenance of internal devices.
The head is pressed into shape on a hydraulic or hydraulic press.
