What are the similarities and differences in principle between superheating and reheating processes?
The similarity lies in that both are processes of heating and increasing the temperature of steam. The difference is that superheating raises the steam temperature above the saturation temperature, improving the initial energy state of the steam. Reheating, however, occurs after the steam has partially expanded and done work. It removes moisture from the steam and raises the steam temperature again to enhance the cycle's thermal efficiency.
1.Descriptions:
A superheater is a device used to convert saturated steam or wet steam into superheated steam or dry steam. Superheated steam is used in steam turbines for electricity generation, steam engines, and in processes such as steam reforming. There are three types of superheaters: radiant, convection, and separately fired. A superheater can vary in size from a few tens of feet to several hundred feet (a few metres to some hundred metres).
Reheaters and superheaters are a set of tubes located in the boiler. Steam from the water walls passes to the superheaters where it is heated above its saturation temperature until the maximum required operating temperature is achieved. The superheated steam then flows through the main steam piping to the high-pressure turbine. Exhaust steam from the high-pressure turbine is guided to the boiler for reheating and from there to the intermediate and low-pressure turbines. High reheating temperatures improve the output and efficiency of a power plant.
Super Heater Types:
A radiant superheater is placed directly in the combustion chamber.
A convection superheater is located in the path of the hot gases.
A separately fired superheater, as its name implies, is totally separated from the boiler.
