    Description

     

    1 HDB has deep understanding on the mechanical and thermodynamics engineering expertise for this product.
    2 Steam drums are a regular feature in many boiler systems.
    3 The steam drum provides a space for the saturated steam generated in the tubes and for the separation of moisture from the steam.
    4 It is a reservoir of water/steam at the top end of the water tubes in the water-tube boiler.
    5 Steam drums store the steam generated in the water tubes and act as a phase separator for the steam/water mixture.

     

    Function 

     

    1 In water tube boilers water goes through the tube and it gets converted to steam.
    2 At the end all the water need not necessarily convert into steam.
    3 It might be in a mixed phase of water and steam. 
    4 Here comes the drum.
    5 Saturated water might not have got the complete latent heat to convert into steam.
    6 Drum acts a reservoir of water and steam and it also separates water from steam.
    7 water is send back to tubes to completely shift to steam.
    8 The tube through which the water steam mixture returns back to the furnce coils is called downcomer.
    9 No of times the water steam mixture goes thru the tubes is generally referred as circulation ratio.

     

    Steam-water separation details

     

    1 Primary steam-water separation removes nearly all the steam from the water so that very little steam is recirculated from the drum bottom towards the heated tubes through the outlet connection (downcomer).
    2 At secondary separation, steam is passed through a secondary stage of separators or scrubber elements (usually closely spaced corrugated parallel plates) for final water droplet removal. Steam is then exhausted through various ports.

     

    Attention

     

    Boiler steam drum water level is one of the most important power plant parameters to both measure and control. Control of the proper water level in the boiler is critical for safe operation of the boiler. If the level is too low, boiler tubes will be damaged by overheating. If the level is too high, steam separators will not function properly, temperature control will be difficult, and the superheater tubes and turbine could be damaged by moisture or water treatment chemical carryover.
